Teenage sprinter Adam Gemili will race over 200metres at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix later this month. Adam Gemili was only looking at the world juniors before he reached Olympic standard (Picture: PA) The 18-year-old, who reached the Olympic 100m semi-finals, will run the distance in his first Diamond League appearance on home soil at the Alexander Stadium on August 26. The world junior champion, with a 200m best of 20.61seconds, said: ?There are going to be some 200m specialists out on the track but I am keen to show I can make that transition. ?It will be fiercely contested ? but I?m more than capable of rising to the occasion.? Former Chelsea youngster Gemili only made the transition to athletics at the turn of the year, having been on the books of Dagenham and Redbridge FC before that. ?The Olympics was an amazing experience for me. I never thought in my wildest dreams that in eight months, I would go from playing non-league football to representing my country in the biggest sporting event in the world ? the Olympic Games,? he said. ?To compete in front of a capacity home crowd against the best athletes in the world gave me a real taste of what?s to come in the next few years.?
