According to the Chairman of the FCC, Julius Genachowski ?The crisis is not over and over all, the condition of our communications networks is improving, but serious outages remain, particularly in New York, New Jersey, and other hard-hit areas. Julius Genachowski. The FCC continues to expect the unexpected.?

Mr. Genachowski or the F.C.C. and the mobile phone companies were not able to say how long it would take to restore full service right now.

Almost 6% of Verizon Wireless cell sites are down in the storm affected areas although according to a statement from Verizon Wireless, it?s switching and data centers are functioning normally. T-Mobile issued a Roughly 20 percent of T-Mobile network in New York City was out of service, as was up to 10 percent of its network in Washington. AT&T and T-Mobile in a statement said that consumers in the affected areas of New York and New Jersey would be able to use the networks of both companies, decreasing the likelihood of failed calls.
